Author's Note: This is copy and pasted from another server I am Rp'ing on, I had made it when the server started dying due to a lack of good RP. It worked quite well actually, so I wish to share it with this community and hope it'll server you as well.
Any mention to names, or events that don't make sense means it applied to the other server I Rp on, I'm going to try and edit them but I may miss some.
Let's commence.

Warning:
Throughout this guide your intelligence may be challenged, your whim may be broken, and your existence may be directly challenged with a verbal backhand. Don't worry, if you feel hurt by what goes on here it means you're learning. So put on your big boy pants and don't attempt to whine about what is said here.
Ever.
There may be times where I also stray off the subject and point out actual things that happened, read them none the less.
They are good tips.
===
Preface:
Right all great things start somewhere so here it is: Roleplaying..a form of creative writing, a way to ease into the skin of another identity....really the definitions for it are endless yet the one true definiton that is the best is the one you hold true to yourself. Everyone has a different way to think about it, from a wide variety of seriousness towards it. In the end, I don't give a crap what it is to you. Not at all. what I do give is how some of you can't do it. Yet, what I want you all to do is just hold on to what your notion of Role-playing is and perhaps by the time you read this you'll have it changed. For the better.
So sit down, spare me 30 minutes of your life and read this.

The Difference Between Traditional and MC:
The real difference, there is barely any except difficulty. You still act out your actions. You still write out your speech and potentially you still write out your thoughts. The true difference? Everything goes quicker and is shorter.
You're reaction time will be tested, a lot..whether you react fast enough may determine the outcome of the Role Play. I mean think about it, I'm about to jump down on you and kill you. If I am too slow to do some sort of slash me grips weapons and plunges down onto Bob. Bob will have already gone prancing into his town and I will be left in my tree acting like a fool because I still have yet to type out half my phrase. We can't halt the world just because you're a slow typer. Though if you are, you shouldn't be doing things that require fast typing. Which will lead me to another subject that makes me facepalm every time I see it.
Other point is how you act our your actions. You're RPing, not just typing out idly. I don't want to see your pixels jumping in the air punching clouds. NO..NO..and NO..that is just wrong and breaks any form of immersion into Rp'ing I held at the moment. If you're a noble, you better damn well act like it and bow to a faction leader. If I came across a Woodsman who just grunted at me or glowered at me I wouldn't give. He's a Woodsman and the Thane of Whiterun. I'd expect that since that is how one Rp's his rank.
Matter is, things are harder here on MC.

OOC/ICC-
Now this, this..just leaves me speechless. How hard is it for you people to take some precious time and type out (())'s outsided your phrase. Or even easier do OOC: then type. Can it be that hard? Can it be more fruitful then causing me confusion on if you meant that IC which would lead me to slap your lack of knowledge or make me go "Ahh..he didn't actually say lol to me IC".
It's easy, it's useful and it saves us the trouble of knowing whether or not you just used a modern phrase in a Medievalish RP.
Lesson learned? Moving on class. Next time I'll encroach the subject of Metagaming and various other things.

Metagaming
Oh this is my favorite. It's such an important concept that gets overlooked so many times I have to wonder if you know what the meaning of common sense is, but..I'm here to teach. Not critize..completely that is.
Metagaming is the act of using something said in OOC or something that your character cannot technically do RP wise and apply it to the roleplay. It should not make sense for your character to know the name of everyone because YOU read it in OOC. No..not a good thing, first it makes you seem like a creeper but more importantly like an idiot. Your character can't read minds...he isn't a God, he's mortal. So forget you heard the name and start a RP by asking a persons name.
You may already know it, but pretend you and your character are 2 different people and in no way does the RP know what the OOC knows. Even if you've been hearing via OOC... Bob plotting the death of your character since a week now through the use of a carefully placed hoe shoved up your character's ass. I don't care, your character isn't suppose to know. He's not suppose to care. He's suppose to go on ignoring the fact that you know he's going to be digging seeds out of his ass for the next week. Just live with it and respond with some LOGICAL..THOUGHT OUT...and POSSIBLE answer. Which, if Bob had a good plan isn't going to happen and you'll be used as fertilizer for his farm. Lovely thought eh?
In other words, think like your character and split the world of OOC and ICC as 2 different things.

I *think*
In relation to metagaming the *think* action is a tricky one. If I'm rping Bob and I say something along the lines of "*thinks* Should I or should I not jab my sword down his throat?" and during the entire conversation we were being on neutral terms. I do not want to see him pulling out his weapon and killing me because he read that. His character can't read minds. So he should just carry on with out conversation. Make sense?
Still, don't be a dick about the *Think* action..
